Overview

During the course participants will learn and demonstrate to a level of competence on how to operate firefighting and fire protection equipment and how to deal with various fire situations onboard installations. Emphasis will be on working as a team under the control of a fire team leader.

Duration

3 Days

The course is a mix of theoretical and practical sessions, during which delegates will be required to demonstrate their level of knowledge and understanding of the training programme content.

LEARNING CONTENT

The syllabus focuses on:

  • Entering and working in the fire incident area using safe working practices and site-specific procedures
  • Locating and recovering casualties
  • Appropriate selection and use portable firefighting equipment to extinguish fires
  • Extinguishing a fire and/or securing an area
  • Conducting breathing apparatus operations during incidents
  • Responding to a confined space incident
  • Responding to an incident involving personnel working at height
  • Maintaining effective communications.

Prerequisites

Delegates must be at least 16 years of age.

Target Audience

All personnel employed who are involved with the emergency response

Certification

A Project Maritime Training certificate will be issued on successful completion of the course.

Revalidation

Every two years.

Held at Project Maritime Training, Saldanha Bay, South Africa.

Items to bring

Delegates must present photographic ID at the start of the course. Accepted forms are government issued photographic identification, eg passport or identity document
Recognised in date medical certificate

Health

All delegates will be asked to complete a medical questionnaire prior to course commencement.
