Overview
This STCW course is designed for crew who have a Proficiency in Survival Craft and Rescue Boats other than Fast Rescue Boats (STCW) certificate and some experience of using fast rescue boats.

LEARNING CONTENT
Course STCW A – VI/2-2
The programme offers a combination of classroom theory sessions and practical boat operations in Saldanha Bay and surrounds. Upon completion of the course, delegates should be able to demonstrate competence to:
- Take charge of a fast rescue boat during and after launch
- Right a capsized fast rescue boat
- Handle a fast rescue boat in prevailing weather and sea conditions
- Use communication and signalling equipment between the fast rescue boat, a helicopter and a ship
- Carry out search patterns
- Use the emergency equipment carried
- Recover a casualty from the water and transfer to a rescue helicopter, or to a ship or place of safety
Course Structure
This is a four-day course comprising theory and practical sessions, both in the classroom and at our pier head facility where candidates are required to be fit enough to undertake practical drills in handling inflatable rescue boats, Jet Boats, life boats and life rafts.
Prequisites
- Delegates must be at least 16 years of
- SAMSA Medical or equivalent
- A valid in date certificate in Survival Craft and Rescue Boats other than Fast Rescue Boats.
Target Audience
All personnel employed onboard vessels who are involved with the emergency response teams.
Certification
A Project Maritime Training STCW 2010 Manilla Compliant Certificate will be issued on delegate been found competent.
Revalidation
Every five years.

Held at Project Maritime Training, Saldanha Bay, South Africa.

- Accepted forms are government issued photographic identification, eg passport or identity document
- Recognised in date medical certificate
Health
All delegates will be asked to complete a medical questionnaire prior to course commencement.
